A VERY successful (Tres Culturas) Three Cultures Festival

Once again the Three Cultures Festival proved to be a huge success bringing many visitors to the streets of Frigiliana.

This year there were two different tapas routes, both offering liquid & food delights from 9 different locations (on each route) around the village. Those finishing the 'route de tapas' (having collected 9 different stamps as they went) received a bright coloured T/shirt advertising their achievement. Great fun for groups of friends and families to take part in, and a great way for visitors to find their way around the village. Edwards Estates were proud to be a sponsor on the T/Shirts for the 2nd year running.

In the unique setting of the historic Casa del Apero, music and stories were performed dating back from many centuries ago. This area being very popular with our younger visitors who loved seeing the stories really come to life.

There was a huge diversity of music over the four day festival but undoubtedly one of the best received were the Cuban Vocal Group who had no instruments on the stage, but managed to create wonderful music using their voices alone and produced Caribbean, Salsa and International Pop songs like The Police ‘every breath you take’ and ‘Hotel California’ by the Eagles.

Another highlight of the festival was the travelling theatre companies that dress up and wander the streets with the visitors. Interacting as they go, as the character that they have come as! This has proved to be a lot of fun over the years as many of the characters date back to many years ago when cleanliness and hygiene was not always apparent and unusual clothing & headwear was the mainstay. They artists are very accomplished and visitors are really taken back in time, with their wonderful acting skills.

Visitors also had access to various workshops where they could participate in arts and crafts with some skills dating back over hundreds of years. The mosaic workshop was quite a hit.

The market was a popular venue with stall holders offering handmade items such as jewellery, soft toys, wooden crafts, pottery and various tea/coffee stalls with lots of ground leaves to purchase.

A special mention to the Frigiliana Town hall for the wonderful firework display that took place on both the opening day of the festival, and the fourth and final day.

If you have ever wanted to experience sounds, smells, pageantry and colour with a difference, the 3 Cultures Festival should be a must on your bucket list.

Frigiliana is really a wonderful place to stay whether it’s on a more permanent basis or in a holiday capacity, in your own holiday home.
